Drone Jammer app?
April Fools is here, and drone jammers are not exempted from the prank. Recently, an application for iOS and Android has been circulating, which claims that they are able to jam drones no matter where its location is.
The said application allows its user to start scanning nearby drones upon entering the app. Afterwards, the user can select a drone and connect to it. Once connected, a series of options will be given regarding the radiofrequency such as 1.5 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz. It then instructs the user to “point the phone on the drone” so they can start sending the frequencies. After a few seconds of waiting, a drone remote control will show, allowing the user to jam its signals.
Seems ideal, yes, but all of these are just for fun.
It would not work well should there be actual drones flying around the area of your house. Although this claims to be a powerful drone jammer app against UAV Quadcopters working on GPS, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, the thing is, it is of no use when compared and applied to real life setting.
Instead, this acts more like a simulated environment for trying to know how to jam drones. It did its best to somehow be as interactive and realistic as possible, and actually, there are some similarities in the said application when compared to an actual drone jammer. There are still radio frequencies involved, which allows the user to be familiar with its context if they really want to learn how to stop drones.
Instead of hating and bashing the application, it can still serve as a game. It looks like top-tier technology, and somehow, can still act as a practice before buying an actual drone jammer to use. Either way, it is an utilization of smartphones and devices to get the most out of the drone experience.
However, if you are looking forward to taking down real drones, then this application is just another prank, and should only be used for fun and entertainment purposes. It will still be best to get your hands on a real one to get the most out of the drone jamming experience!
